_HidroItuango has been one of the most contentious and controversial projects in recent years in Colombia. However, the government explains that its magnitude and impact in the country is not comparable to what this megaproject would mean for the country's energy sector. "This project promises to generate 17% of the energy used in Colombia by 2022," explain the directors in charge of the EPM project. The construction of this project begins in 2014, in an area where a large number of social conflicts have previously existed and some of these still persist until now.
Since its construction, the ecological problems generated by the implementation of this project have been many. Taking as a reference the jaguar corridor that crosses the vicinity of the project and has an important point of connectivity in the Cauca River on its route.
Which leads us to ask ourselves if the construction of exploitation projects for El Progreso should be imposed on the ecosystems and the balance of the territory?
